The Sample Food Festival has been soaring to new heights in the past couple of years, so where better to launch this year’s event than an airport?

The annual food festival isn’t officially taking off until September 1, when over 16,000 locals, travellers, guest chefs and food lovers are expected to converge on the Northern Rivers.

But patrons at Gold Coast Airport were given an early taste of what will be on offer when celebrity chef and author Darren Robertson hosted a morning tea at the facility on Monday.

Judging by the punters’ enthusiasm, the platters of locally sourced olives, cheeses, dips and salami were far superior to plane food.

Robertson, the co-host of Channel 10’s Recipe to Riches, announced the program events for this year’s festival at Bangalow Showgrounds and pre-festival events.

This will include a lunch by renowned chef Shannon Bennett from Vue de Monde. Find out more at: www.samplefoodevents.com.

Gold Coast Airport is the Presenting Partner of the eighth Sample festival, and festival director Rose Taylor said, ‘We are so thrilled to have the Gold Coast Airport on board this year as the Presenting Partner, it really highlights the growing interest in gastronomical travel and tourism for our region.

Every year we have visitors travelling through Gold Coast Airport – the largest gateway to our region – to attend the festival from around Australia and overseas’.
