TAFE Go Mad for Byron

North Coast TAFE launched their new training location in Byron Bay yesterday at a ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ event at the Byron Bay Community Centre.

In partnership with local training and employment services organisation, EnviTE they have tailored a suite of training services to address the key needs for students, jobseekers and employers in the Byron area.

One of the key outcomes is the commitment of North Coast TAFE to have a training centre in Byron using the Community Centre facilities to make training more accessible to the community.

They also identified a need for less theory based training, and more hands on skills based training for students.
North Coast TAFE Director , Elizabeth McGregor said: “Over the past 12 months we have aimed to make TAFE services more mobile. We have created the ‘TAFE Here’ program to take learning to the communities and industries that need it.”

So far they have launched – Certificate 3 in Hospitality with 8 weeks intensive Barista Training/RSA/RCG/Food Safety, Certificate 3 in Parks & Resorts with 5 units from Horticulture and Certificate 3 in Business with intensive MYOB Training.

All courses are mixed mode – 1 day classroom, 1 day work placement, 1 day practical hands on learning.

Lee Sherman Team leader with EnviTE commented: “North Coast TAFE have been incredibly supportive assisting with transport taking client/student on industry field trips and extra resources. Five of our hospitality clients have secured employment through their work placement, through us and finding their own jobs. Which is fantastic news.”
