The 2015 Byron bay Writers festival opened on Friday 7th August to glorious sunshine. Now in it’s 19th year the event is firmly established in the literary industry calendar.
Renowned for featuring a host of Australian writers and a selection of international authors the Writers festival has something for everyone.
With over 140 authors over 3 days budding writers listened spellbound to pearls of wisdom from published writers. Avid readers had their chance to find out what makes their favourite authors tick and discover new authors to explore.
There was standing room only for many of the heavy hitters including Julia Gillard, Anna Bligh, Tim Costello and Tariq Ali.
At other tents there was hilarity from Dirty Chicks chaired by Moya Sayer-Jones featuring Antonia Murphy, Hannie Rayson and our local jewel Mandy Nolan. Laughs also abounded even from the more seriously titled events, A Good Death and Turning to the Dark Side.
The event has been hailed a tremendous success with 3 day passes and Saturday day passes sold out.
The Festival continues with 2 post festival events: AC Grayling, International Philosopher, presents ‘The Challenge of Things: Thinking Through Troubled Times’ on September 10th and ‘In Conversation with Peter Garrett’ on October 28th.
