Next in line is the Richmond Valley Council which will receive $1,170,742 in grants.

Kyogle Shire Council will receive $974,138 while Ballina Shire Council will receive $929,439.

Byron Shire will receive just on $653,000.

Page MP Kevin Hogan said grant money was untied, meaning it could be used to deliver on local priorities such as services, facilities and infrastructure that communities needed most.

‘The Australian government is providing a total of $2.3 billion to local governments across Australia under the 2014-15 Financial Assistance Grants program,’ Mr Hogan said.

“The Australian Government recognises the important contribution councils, as the level of government closest to Australians, make to our national economy and the leadership they provide at a local community level,” Mr Hogan said.

‘Local governments play a pivotal role in bringing communities together and producing local solutions to local problems.’

The announcement is the latest tranche of funding under the government’s four-year $9.3 billion Financial Assistance Grants program.
