North Coast TAFE at the Tamworth Country Music Festival

Visitors to the Tamworth Country Music Festival this year can enjoy busker music, learn some new skills and explore career options at the ‘Made by TAFE NSW Precinct’.

From Tuesday 19 January to Saturday 23 January, North Coast TAFE will join other TAFE NSW Institutes in the Precinct on Peel Street in providing visitors with demonstrations in food and beverage, hair and beauty, horticulture, music and creative arts and indigenous culture.

Head Teacher of Tourism, Events, Aviation, Cookery and Hospitality for the Northern Rivers, Mary Allan says that the thousands of visitors from many parts of the North Coast will have the opportunity to explore new areas of skills and interest.

“Whether it is finding out how to keep your kitchen knives sharp, host your own mocktail evening, make mushrooms marvellous or even discover the next big music talent – the Made in TAFE NSW Precinct has it all,” says Ms Allan.

Other hands-on activities include areas as diverse as speaking an Aboriginal language, drought proofing your garden or recording music and making sound effects. There will also be a showcase of a special ‘caravanner’s kit of tricks’ for the ‘grey nomads’ visiting the Festival.

In the evening the precinct will transform into a pop up food venue, right at the centre of the Country Music Busking Championships.

Events Diploma student, Nicole Moody from Coffs Harbour, will work with the busker competitors behind the scenes while visitors stop by the Precinct, enjoy a cheeseboard or antipasto platter, a cold drink and enjoy tunes from an array of buskers from around Australia.

“This is one of the most anticipated events in the Festival, so I’m really looking forward to the experience of coordinating the buskers for the five days of the championship,” says Ms Moody.

TAFE NSW will also provide a recording session to the ‘People’s Choice’ busker, as voted at the championship on Saturday 23 January.

There’s also the opportunity to win a double pass to Saturday evening’s Toyota Golden Guitar Awards, the pinnacle awards event for country music, either by dropping in and entering in person or by visiting their Facebook page.
