NOROC calls for northern rivers minister

The group representing northern rivers councils wants the New South Wales Government to appoint a specific minister for the region, in northern NSW.

The chairman of the Northern Rivers Regional Organisation of Councils (NOROC), Ernie Bennett, says that request headed an extensive wish list presented to the NSW Rural and Regional Task Force.

He says other areas such as the Hunter, Illawarra, central coast and western Sydney have their own ministers to deal with local concerns.

“That does happen, especially in areas where there’s high growth. We have high growth and I think it’s vital that we have that bit closer contact with the government of the day,” he said.
