‘Flickerfest - Kapowerful Short Films!’


Flickerfest returns to the Northern Rivers from the 25th-27th January, for it’s 21st year screening a smorgasbord of the best short films from the Byron Region, Australia and the World, across one cinema-packed short film weekend at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall.

Celebrating 28 years in 2019 Flickerfest remains Australia’s leading Academy® Accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival, ensuring that they continue to present A-list short film programmes recognised amongst the best in the world. Flickerfest remains a platform for celebrating the most entertaining and innovative short filmmaking from Australia and around the world.

The Flickerfest programme includes the Opening Night Party & Best Of International Shorts (Fri 25 Jan, 7pm) & the Best Of Australian Shorts (Sat 26 Jan, 8pm), curated from the Flickerfest International & Australian programmes in competition at Bondi; & Short Laughs Comedy (Sun 27 Jan, 8pm) an off-kilter selection of clever comedy shorts from across the world. This is a one-off chance to see these amazing short films before they continue their journey around the world; expect to experience the best in short filmmaking Australia & the world has on offer.

The Flickerfest 2019 programme in Bondi, was selected from 2,700 entries and 99 countries from giving local Flickerfest audiences the first look at the hottest short films in the world today. At Flickerfest Mullumbimby we will be screening an entertaining, inspiring & award winning range of over 30 Flickerfest short films, handpicked into 3 highlight programmes over 3 nights, many of which are world or Australian premieres.

They will also be presenting the Best of Northern Rivers Shorts with the Byron All Shorts (Sat 26 Jan, 4pm) finalist’s screening, selected from around 50 entries, showcasing a wonderful new collection of creative shorts from our very talented local filmmakers on a range of themes that reflect Northern Rivers life.
