The State Government is promising another $180 million to finish upgrading the Lismore Base Hospital
Health Minister Jillian Skinner made the announcement while campaigning in the region today.
She said the money would pay for new operating theatres, in-patient and paediatric beds, medical imaging and other clinical facilities.
“This is not conditional to poles and wires leasing, this is forward capital works,” Ms Skinner said.
“But it is a commitment by the Baird Government, it’s not necessarily one that Labor has announced.
“This completes stage three of the hospital upgrade.
“Stage 3A was $80 million for a new emergency department, maternity and so on.
“I was absolutely shocked when I first visited this hospital as the Minister for Health four years ago.
“I think the emergency department was one of the most difficult I’d ever seen in the state.
“The building you’re seeing behind us here includes an emergency department three-times bigger than the current one.”
