Cutting the Cost of Your Communications

Posted: , in

In this era of one to one client communications many businesses are finding that phone bills are one of their biggest expenses. New technology may have the answer.

A conventional land line call is charged according to the number of exchanges it will pass through, until the call reaches
its destination.

However, Voice over Inetrnet Procotol, or VoIP as it’s known, utilises the Internet, effectively by-passing these exchanges. This results in the call charges being much less.

Although the technology has been around for years it is only in the last 2 years the acceptance of VoIP technology has taken off. In 2005 a mere 1% of small and medium sized businesses were using VoIP, today, 19% of Australia’s SMEs are using
VoIP technology.

So how does it work? VoIP services convert your voice into a digital signal that travels over the Internet. If you are calling a regular phone number, the signal is converted to a regular telephone signal before it reaches the destination. VoIP can allow you to make a call directly from a computer, a special VoIP phone, or a traditional phone connected to a special adapter. In addition, wireless “hot spots” in locations such as airports, parks, and cafes allow you to connect to the Internet and may enable you to use VoIP service wirelessly.

Mark Larson, owner of the VoIP Store comments, “In today’s economy, businesses and individuals have little control over the cost of petrol, interest rates and other routine expenses.”
Since starting up a year ago this local company has played an active role in helping people control the amount they spend for telecommunications use and access.

Customer, Val Pinney, owner of Big River Sportswear in Ballina, said: “We have a large clientele. Our communication costs were getting out of control.” After a consultation Mark switched their traditional telecommunications service to broadband technology. Val was exceptionally happy with the results as they… “cut our costs down to nearly zero.”

Peter Hume is another happy customer, owner of Duck Creek Mountain Macadamias, he explains: “We have actually increased our customer phone contact and reduced our bills by over
50 percent.”
