Northern NSW Firefighters Offer Vic Help
Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews are on alert in northern New South Wales to help with the Victorian firefighting effort.
RFS coordinator for the northern region, Inspector Trevor Lyons, says there are 400 firefighters ready to go if needed.
NSW has already sent 390 personnel to the fire effort in Victoria.
Inspector Lyons says even when the immediate fire danger has passed there is still a need for more help.
“This campaign may go on for quite some weeks in Victoria, especially with some cleaning up and some campaign fires down there, back-burning operations to control some of these still uncontrolled fires will commence after major plant work and then major back-burning operations will commence and that’s when we may be needed with additional people,” he said.
