Increased Airport Fees Not Significant: REX
Regional Express Airlines says there will not be a huge cost increase for passengers if Sydney Airport’s proposed fee increase is approved.
The airport is seeking approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to increase fees to cover security, a passenger fee for the T2 terminal and a runway charge.
REX airlines managing director Jim Davis says the airport has only applied for a 22 cent increase, which is only represents a 2.9 per cent rise.
“The magnitude is not that great,” he said.
“We’ll be putting our case to the ACCC that it’s not just the CPI that should be considered here, it’s also what REX’s done over the last few years.
“We’ve basically doubled the number of passengers going through Sydney Airport and therefore doubled the revenue that we deliver to Sydney Airport and we think there should be some consideration made to the economies of scale here.”
