Fast Train Boosts Rail Hopes
Labor’s plans for a high-speed rail line in Australia have renewed hopes for a light rail commuter line on the New South Wales north coast.
The Federal Government will today announce a $20 million study to investigate the possibility of a high-speed rail link along the east coast.
Greens’ leader Bob Brown says Labor’s plan is the same plan the Greens proposed months ago but he does not mind.
He also says light rail is an ideal complement to high-speed rail.
“High-speed rail can’t work in the old way, pulling up at every station for example between Grafton and Lismore but what you need is light rail to complement it, giving people in the regions and districts the cheap, efficient and clean transport that is so available in the 21st century,” he said.
