Council Accused of Delaying Centre Expansion

A Tweed councillor says projects that create more jobs for the region should not be held up by bad council decisions.
Cr Warren Polglase is angry that Tweed Shire Council has delayed a rezoning application from a major shopping centre to allow it to expand.
He wants last week’s decision rescinded.
Cr Polglase says Tweed City Shopping Centre is a big employer in the area and plans to expand means more jobs.
He says it should be allowed to rezone nearby land as soon as possible to fast-track plans to expand and create more job opportunities in an area that has high unemployment.
“Now, the Tweed City Shopping Centre is one of our major employers in the area and it should be allowed to go ahead with the rezoning application and not have it delayed for another year,” Cr Polglase said.
“The centre wants to expand to allow more retailers into the complex and that means more jobs.
“Tweed Shire Council should allow the rezoning to start immediately.”
