Editor's Note, Winter 2008

Welcome to your Winter issue of NRBM which also coincides with our first birthday. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to our readers, columnists, advertisers and the team who make Northern Rivers Business Magazine possible. We think it’s essential to have a regional business magazine to ensure the region can keep up to date with our diverse business centres and also promote business throughout the region and beyond.

Business Matters this issue has a host of business information including Employment & Training, Financial, Business Planning and Marketing. We also have 3 new sections focussing on Security, Communications and Agribusiness and we look forward to covering issues that affect your business. If you have any topics you would like us to cover in Business Matters please e-mail them.

Our regional feature this issue is on Ballina Shire which, with a robust network of towns and villages, continues to strengthen its economy. The diversity of business from large corporates to entrepreneurial home base businesses gives the region a capacity to sustain their growing population.

The 2008/9 State Budget has been announced and has delivered record infrastructure spending and a $1.9 billion cut in payroll tax. Although the 2007/8 economic growth exceeded expectations, rising interest rates, currency and petrol prices are already taking their toll and businesses are preparing themselves for a tough year.

Inside this issue we have a forum interview with 6 Economic Development Units from the Northern Rivers. Find out more about what they can do to grow your business.

We hope this issue inspires business innovation and success to all our readers this Winter.
